Arlington Shop to Host Haitian Peace Quilts Show

Colorful quilts from Haiti will be displayed and available for purchase at Trade Roots on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 4 – 6 p.m. The trunk show is sponsored by PeaceQuilts, a non-profit that promotes economic development in Haiti by establishing and supporting women’s cooperatives that produce and sell handcrafted quilts. The organization provides supplies, education, and marketing assistance with the goal that the cooperatives will eventually be self-managed and self-sustaining.

The trunk show will include quilts of various sizes, as well as other hand-sewn items, such as tote bags and pillow covers, and fabric-bead jewelry, made from smaller scraps of fabric that cannot be used in the quilts. A representative from PeaceQuilts will be on hand to share information about the quilts and the artisans who make them.

Trade Roots, a fair trade store offering handcrafted items from around the world, is located at 5852 Washington Blvd., Arlington. For more information, visit fairtraderoots.com or call 571-335-4274.
