S. Washington St. Area Plan Gets Unanimous OK From F.C. Council

Subjected to sharp criticism from one prominent local developer for delaying final approval of the City Planning Department’s Sector Plan for the S. Washington St. corridor of the City two weeks ago, the F.C. Council gave final and unanimous OK to the plan at tonight’s meeting. The developer who criticized the earlier delay, Bob Young, spoke in glowing terms tonight in favor of adopting the plan, and urged the Council to work with the City staff to begin finding resources for streetscape work to improve the look of the semi-blighted area right away.

Nikki Graves Henderson, CEO of the Tinner Hill Historic Foundation, also expressed support for the plan, cautioning that the “devil will be in the details of its implementation,” while Councilman David Tarter said “this is a great first step, a catalyst for high quality redevelopment of the area.”
