With the fall kickoff of its 2013-14 season, Creative Cauldron celebrates the launch of its fifth year of programming at ArtSpace Falls Church.
The season opens with “Marry Me a Little” from Oct. 4 – 27, a charming and bittersweet musical revue featuring songs by Stephen Sondheim.
An gala fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, with a pre-performance reception at the Tax Analyst Building, 400 S. Maple Ave., Falls Church, featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres and libations catered by Pizzeria Orso. Following the show will be a dessert party with the cast. Tickets are $100 per person, and all proceeds will benefit Creative Cauldron’s general operating fund.
Creative Cauldron’s Learning Theater, an ensemble of young performers who perform side by side with adult professionals, will present “Tales from the Brothers Grimm” from Nov. 1 – 24. Adapted from classic Grimm folktales,the production will feature original music written by Matt Conner.
“Christmas Cabin of Carnaween” will be presented for its fifth and final year from December 6 – 22. This Irish folktale, set during the great potato famine, follows the journey of a tinker’s child who longs to one day have a home of her own, whose dream would go unfulfilled were it not for the wee people who come to her aid on a beautiful snowy night on a hillside in Carnaween.
The fourth annual “Passport to the World” festival, from Jan. 18 – Feb. 22, will feature performances by professional music, dance, and theater troupes representing cultures and traditions from around the globe. On Sundays at 2 p.m. during the series, Creative Cauldron will present family-friendly story theater presentations of international folk tales with musical accompaniment and dance provided by partnering groups.
From March 14 – April 6, “Alice in Wonderland” will be presented as Creative Cauldron’s spring Learning Theater production. Lewis Carroll’s famous story of a little girl’s fantastical journey through Wonderland will come to life through the inventive musical stylings of Matt Conner and scenic and puppet designs of Margie Jervis.
“SHOUT! The Mod Musical” will take audiences back to the music, style and freedom of the 1960s from May 2 – 25. The revue follows five groovy gals as they come of age during those liberating days that made England sing.
