Art in Fashion on Display in New ArtWORKS Show

Art in Fashion, the new Falls Church Arts ArtWORKS show, will open this week.

Art in Fashion is the fourth in this educational series about careers in the arts, and was chosen to illustrate how two local artists – Nisha Thirumurthy (who lives in the City of Falls Church) and Nicole Alfieri – took different routes to achieving their goal of a career in the fashion business and have built successful couture design and manufacturing businesses.

The entire process of designing and production will be exhibited, illustrating how artisans and designers work – from choosing colors for dyeing threads to designing garments and more.

Working in different materials and processes and creating different products, each artist has sourced, trained, and collaborated using her own experiences and education to create a niche market for designs, working with and employing other artists and artisans in the process.

This Thursday, models from size 0/2 and up will be showcasing the artists’ works in a fashion show. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at ArtSpace Falls Church, 410 S. Maple Ave., and is free and open to the public. The show runs there from Sept. 19 – Oct. 13, with an additional fashion show on Oct. 10.
