Mustang Ice Hockey Wins Spring League

The George Mason High School club ice hockey team defeated Hayfield 7-4 last Friday night to clinch first place in spring league play at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington.

In the 10-game season, Mason’s record was 7-2-1; the Mustangs finished one point ahead of Washington-Lee and West Potomac, both of whom finished at 7-3. Lake Braddock, Hayfield, and Yorktown filled out the standings.

Mustang captain Hunter Olson led the way as the league’s top scorer with 27 goals and 13 assists. Joining Olson on the team were assistant captains Adam Fendley, Jack Stricker, and Andrew Williamson; junior Ian Griffin; freshmen Sam Allan, Ben Kravinsky, and Tyler Taylor; and eighth-grader Alec Reusch. Taylor Arney and Matt Lowrey, currently recovering from injuries, served as team managers, and Ian Reusch was the time keeper.

This is the third year of play for the Mason ice hockey club, which competes during the winters in the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League and in the Kettler league for the spring season.
