Mason Scholastic Bowl Team Takes Region B Crown

The George Mason High School Scholastic Bowl team did double duty over the weekend. One part of the team was dispatched to Rappahannock County High School and returned with school’s 10th Region B Tournament Championship title. In Washington, D.C., other members of the Scholastic Bowl team were taping a playoff round match for an upcoming “It’s Academic” episode program on NBC4.

The team earned decisive victories over Luray High School (350-95), Appomattox County High School (370-75), and Manassas Park High School (330-125 and 320-105) to take the top spot in the tournament. The win sends the Mustangs to the College of William and Mary on Saturday, Feb. 23 to defend their VHSL State Championship title. This makes the 12th consecutive year that the Mason team has earned a spot in the state-level contest. Mason has won the state title the past three years.

The air time for the “It’s Academic” episode have not yet been announced.
