Longtime Falls Church Episcopal Member Carolyn S. Whiting Dies

Carolyn S. Whiting, a resident of Falls Church and summer resident of South Freeport, Maine, died on Christmas morning, 2012.

Carolyn was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late George and Helen Cressey Stanwood. She attended Middlebury College, where she met Webster Whiting, whom she married after they graduated in 1943.

Carolyn, as a Navy wife, moved with Web to the Washington area in 1944 and started their family.

One of Carolyn’s passions was community outreach where she worked making deliveries for Meals on Wheels and helping the needy through the Falls Church Community Services Board. Her summers were spent at their South Freeport cottage, where she shared her love of swimming in the ocean with her family and friends.

Carolyn is survived by her two daughters, Ann W. Goldberg of Falls Church and Elizabeth W. Cramp of Clifton; one son, W. Stanwood Whiting of Baltimore; five grandchildren, Jennifer G. Pontello of South Riding, Rachel G. Schneider of Clifton, Katherine and Thomas Cramp Jr. of Clifton, and Thomas Whiting of Baltimore; and one great grandchild, George Pontello of South Riding.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Falls Church Community Service Council, Inc., c/o The Falls Church, Episcopal, 115 E. Fairfax St., Falls Church, VA 22046.
