Quinn’s to Auction Netsuke Collection

Quinn’s Auction Galleries in Falls Church will auction the renowned estate collection of antique netsukes (carved Japanese artworks) from the late diplomat Jack A. Mang and his wife, the late Helen Randall Mang on Dec. 7.

According to Quinn’s, the Mangs bought their first netsuke in 1950, after spotting it in a shop window in New York City. Their fascination for the beautiful Japanese artworks — carved of ivory, bone or wood — never waned. They became ultimate authorities on the subject of netsukes and were founding members of the Washington, D.C. chapter of the International Netsuke Society.

Quinn’s, according to its statement, “is honored to have been chosen to present the Mangs’ wonderful collection at auction” and has planned a lecture, special preview and catered reception for this Saturday, Dec. 1 at the gallery. All interested parties are welcomed to this event.
