Deceased Found in F.C. House Fire

Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a fatal house fire early Monday morning in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located on the 6600 block of Orland Street.

Firefighters encountered a two-story cape cod style home fully involved with fire upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an exterior fire attack due to the overwhelming volume of fire throughout the structure. The second floor collapsed inside the home. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. Firefighters reported hoarding conditions inside the home. A nearby adjacent house received minor exterior fire damage. As fire investigators were digging out the fire, they discovered a deceased body.

Both police and fire investigators are investigating the cause of death. Name of the deceased will be withheld until notification of kin. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

The home is a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
