F.C. Tree Planting Volunteers Needed This Fall

The City of Falls Church and Village Preservation and Improvement Society’s Neighborhood Tree Program is organizing three opportunities this fall for volunteers to help cool and beautify City of Falls Church streets and sidewalks while getting exercise and meeting new people.

Tree planting dates are Saturday, Oct. 27 at 8:30 a.m. at 501 N. West St., Falls Church, and Saturday, Nov. 3, at 8:30 a.m. at 1202 Offutt Drive, Falls Church. Tree maintenance is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10, at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Ellison and S. West streets. Volunteers typically finish by noon. These dates are subject to change only if steady, heavy rain is predicted.

Volunteers will come together to help the City replace trees lost to age, disease, and infill development. They’ll meet for a quick planting demonstration before each scheduled planting and then form teams before spreading out to work across the City. Participants should wear boots or heavy shoes, gloves, and clothes that can get dirty. Light refreshments and extra tools will be available.
