Leaf Collection Begins Oct. 15 in City of F.C.

The City of Falls Church will collect leaves in residential areas beginning next Monday, Oct. 15.

The leaf collection schedule is as follows: Oct. 15 – Oct. 19, south of Broad Street; Oct. 22 – 26, north of Broad Street; Oct. 29 – Nov. 9, south of Broad Street; Nov. 13 – Nov. 24, north of Broad Street; Nov. 26 – Dec. 7, south of Broad Street; and Dec. 10 – Dec. 21, north of Broad Street.

To properly prepare for leaf collection, residents should rake loose leaves to the curb but avoid placing them in the street. Leaves must be piled away from storm drains and water meter covers. Residents must keep all other collection material at least five feet away from leaf piles. Do not mix brush or other items with leaves as they may injure City crews, damage equipment, damage private property, and cause delays. The leaves that are collected will be processed into high-quality leaf mulch available at the Recycling Center in March next year.

Each residential street is vacuumed at least two times. Collection schedules are changed and updated depending on the timing of the leaf drop, weather conditions, volume of leaves, and crew progress. As a reminder, bundled brush and yard waste bag collection continues throughout the leaf collection season on Wednesdays.
