F.C. Officials Mull Change in Sub-Standard Lot Law

At a joint work session Tuesday, the Falls Church City Council and Planning Commission initiated conversations on revising the City Code to address the issue of the 291 sub-standard lot residential properties in the City.

Under current code, such properties, where one home sits on two adjacent small lots, can be divided under certain circumstances along underlying separate lot lines and new homes can be constructed on each lot. However, as suggested by City Planner Jim Snyder Tuesday, the City may address what many feel is a problem by changing the Code to say that if there is one home on the two underlying lots now, then there can only be one home henceforth. Very preliminary plans were discussed to begin to address this matter, which last went through an exhaustive review by the City Council in 2006.
