Stuart Career Tech Students Earn Top National Honors

Career Technology Education students representing Future Business Leaders of America, SkillsUSA, and Technology Student Association qualified to attend the 2012 National Skills and Leadership Competitions this summer. This is the first time that J.E.B. Stuart High School has sent students to the national competition in all three CTE areas. A total of 13 Stuart students achieved high rankings at district and state competitions that qualified them for the national competitions.

The FBLA “Gateway to Greatness” National Leadership Conference was held in San Antonio from June 28 – July 3. Recent Stuart graduates Camilia Moscoso and Simi Sdridhar competed in the “Emerging Business Issues” event and placed sixth in the nation. Seniors Sam Lebryk, Jake Wax, and Zach Richland participated in the “Marketing Team” competition. Earlier this year, the team placed first at the Virginia state level FBLA competitions.

The SkillsUSA “Champions at Work Prepared with the Skills America Needs” National Skills and Leadership Conference was held in Kansas City from June 23 – June 28. Recent Stuart graduate Maria Canon competed in the “Customer Service” event and placed 10th in the nation. In April, she placed first in “Customer Service” at the Virginia state level SkillsUSA competition.

The TSA “Road to Success” National Leadership Conference was held in Nashville, from June 21 – 25. The following students from Stuart competed at the national level as a result of their successes at the Virginia state level TSA competition: recent graduates Fatima Askaryar and Jose Zurita; seniors Jonathan Cavero, Manpreet Sambe, Alex Mejia, and Erwin Moya; and junior Armani Tagle.
