Columbia Pike Forum Set for Sept. 8

The Coalition for Smarter Growth will host a “Coming and Going on Columbia Pike” forum and walking tour on Saturday, Sept. 8 focusing on some of the changes on Columbia Pike since its first community design charette. The new residential and streetcar plans will be discussed, as the first suburban streetcar to return to the region following the arrival of the automobile is in the works.

Also the “PikeRide” bus service, urban design and neighborhood transitions, and Arlington’s strategies to preserve and add affordable housing will be discussed. The program runs from 10 a.m. to noon, starting at 2611 Columbia Pike, Arlington. Chris Zimmerman of the Arlington County Board and Stewart Schwartz of the Coalition for Smarter Growth will be among the speakers.
