Rising Mason 8th-Grader to Study Latin at College

Anna Vanessa Parnell, a rising eighth-grader at George Mason High School, will study Latin at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, during June and July 2012 as part of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth Intensive Studies Program.

Parnell was invited to test for the program after scoring above the 95 percentile on a nationally normed, grade-appropriate test. She received a qualifying score on the Scholastic Achievement Test, to secure her enrollment in the Intensive Studies Program. She took the SAT during her seventh grade year at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School.

In the three-week program, Parnell will cover the equivalent of one year of high school, or one semester of college, in Latin studies.
