Blues-Inspired Mom’s Day Brunch & Other F.C. Food Specials This Sunday

Sunday is for honoring Mom, not subjecting her to your failed kitchen experiments. So, do yourself –and her– a favor, and rather than risk a Sunday visit from the Falls Church Fire Department, check out the Mother’s Day specials these Falls Church restaurants are serving up.

Mad Fox Brewing Company (444 West Broad Street, madfoxbrewing.com) has a music and food Mother’s Day celebration with a blues-inspired brunch menu featuring New Orleans-flavored items like beignets, andouille sausage hushpuppies, gumbo and crab cake benedict. A complete menu can be seen at fcne.ws/madfoxmd.

Providing the soundtrack for Mad Fox’s fiesta for Mom is George Mason High School’s own Lu and the Blues Crew, a five-piece blues and rock group playing a mix of music including hits from The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, B.B. King and more.

Mad Fox’s Mother’s Day brunch runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Sunday. Reservations are recommened and can be made online at madfoxbrewing.com or by telephone at 703-942-6840.

Down the street at Ireland’s Four Provinces (105 West Broad Street, 4psva.com), a Mother’s Day brunch along with a special three-course Mother’s Day dinner is on tap for the Irish restaurant and pub.

The dinner for Mom starts off with a first course choice of shrimp bisque, potato leek soup or tomato and mozzarella and follows with main course options including a filet and crab cake, roasted grouper and chicken “Oscar” (chicken breast topped with lump crab meat and hollandaise.) A fresh strawberry shortcake with raspberry coulis will be served for dessert.

As for brunch, three seatings are available starting at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Reservations for brunch in the dining room are required while patio seating will be available on a walk-in basis, weather permitting.

Reservations for both brunch ($19.95) and dinner ($27.95) may be placed by calling 703-534-8999.

Just outside the City limits, Open Kitchen (7115 Leesburg Pike, openkitchen-dcmetro.com) will be honoring Mom with their regular menu along with some new spring-time dishes including a green papaya chicken salad, grilled salmon with saffron scallop nage, grilled squash and fresh herbed risotto, a jumbo lump crab cake with tarragon butter sauce and, a dessert inspired by Open City’s Chef Shearod’s Mom, a gooey butter cake with fresh seasonal berries.

Open City is open from 5 – 10 p.m. this Sunday; reservations can be made on their website at openkitchen-dcmetro.com.
