Antique Military Device Found in F.C. Neighborhood

dsc 0041(Photo: Lou Emery)On Monday, April 16, at 10:22 a.m., City of Falls Church Police Department received a call from a resident in the 200 block of N. Virginia Avenue, Falls Church, about a potential explosive device found buried in the resident’s yard. The Police Department responded with the City of Falls Church Fire Marshal. The Arlington County Fire Department and the military were also contacted and arrived on scene. The device was determined to be an antique military device, which was rendered safe and disposed of by the military.

During the 2-1/2 hour investigation, individuals in seven residences were advised to leave the area and nearby Cherry Hill Park was closed. A portion of Park Avenue was also closed to accommodate emergency vehicles. The scene was cleared by 12:45 p.m. There were no injuries. The immediate vicinity was checked for additional concerns, but none were found.
