VPIS Seeks Volunteers for Planting at Frady Park

On April 14 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., citizens are invited to stop by and lend a hand for as much time as they can spare for a landscaping project at Frady Park, located on the 400 block of East Broad Street.

The Village Preservation and Improvement Society recognized Frady Park’s historical significance, as the site of the first Arbor Day celebration in Virginia in 1892. To honor that time and the beginning of the City’s commitment to the planting of trees, a commemorative park was created within Frady called Arbor Day Commons. Thus the volunteer effort began for raising funds and having volunteers to execute the plan.

Donuts and drinks will be provided, and work will include planting, weeding, trimming of perennials, and some raking, and removal of branches, leaves and debris.
