George Mason High School’s girls basketball team lost 51-39 to Stuarts Draft High School tonight in the finals of the Region B tournament.
George Mason jumped out to a four point lead in the first quarter and finished the half up 23-19. The Lady Cougars took a 32-28 lead in the third quarter. In the fourth, Stuarts Draft outscored George Mason 19-11 to take the championship.
Junior forward Stephanie Cheney scored 16 points, senior forward Lauren Kane followed with 14 points and sophomore center Ashley Alexander added four points.
The Lady Mustangs move on to the Virginia High School League state tournament, where they will play the winner of the Region A final between Sussex Central High School and Northumberland High School.
