Lady Mustangs Earn District Final Spot with Victory Over Madison County

The George Mason High School girls basketball team ended the first half down to Madison County High School, but managed to pull off a 47-38 victory Wednesday night. Junior forward Stephanie Cheney said the Lady Mustangs “came out flat” against Madison County.

George Mason ended the first quarter down 12-15 and temporarily took the lead in the second quarter, but Madison County pulled back ahead and ended the first half 25-26. Madison County scored the first two points of the third quarter and widened the gap to three points. But sophomore center Ashley Alexander drew a foul while scoring two points, made the following free throw and hit a 3-pointer on the next trip down the court to put George Mason ahead for good.

The team will move on to the championship round of the Bull Run District tournament Friday against Central High School.
