Mason’s Seidita Takes District Wrestling Title

Danny Seidita (120 pounds) won the Bull Run District title and fellow senior Ze’ev Lailari (160 pounds) placed third at the Bull Run District championships last weekend at Strasburg. In a season in which he has seen many of his teammates injured or ill, Seidita did not let any distractions deter him from a dominating 5-0 victory over Ember Gaitan of Manassas Park. Seidita is currently ranked fourth in Single A state and the favorite to win the Region B title.

Lailari who is also ranked fourth in the state finished behind Madison County’s Anthony Jewett and Clarke County’s Ben Wallace who are ranked number one and number three respectively.

Fellow senior Alborz Alaeddini (145 pounds) who was on the mats for the first time in over a month due to effects from a concussion placed fourth.

Seidita dominated his opponent from the outset. After a quick takedown for a 2-0 lead, Seidita rode Gaitan for the rest of the first period. Gaitan chose bottom to start the second period but that strategy backfired as Seidita rode him for the entire time. At times it was all the Cougar wrestler could do to deny Seidta back points, earning a stalling warning along the way. In the third period Seidita needed just under 30 seconds to reverse Gaitan and rode him for the remainder of the match seeking ways to turn his opponent. Gaitan’s stalling strategy did forestall back points but he was penalized for stalling adding another point to give Seidita the 5-0 win.

Overall, the George Mason wrestling team advanced nine to the Region B championships to be held next weekend at Strasburg High School. The tournament will be a two day event with wrestling starting at 3 p.m. Friday.
