Mason Swimmers Clinch Undefeated District Season

The George Mason High School boys and girls varsity swim teams finished their regular season with wins against Madison County and Strasburg high schools at a meet Saturday.

Both teams have only lost once this season in an out-of-district meet against Potomac Falls High School last month. They are undefeated in the Bull Run District.

Saturday, the boys team defeated Strasburg 80-13 and Madison County 78-15. The girls team topped Strasburg and Madison County with 75-19 and 63-30 scores, respectively.

The Mason boys team took first place on all three of its relays, and the girls won two – coming in third in the 400-yard free relay.

Swimmers from the boys team dominated single-swimmer events, winning all eight. Swimmers taking the top spot in their events were seniors Reid Back, Sam Cashin and Alex Valentino, and sophomores Vincent Camacho, Austin Gogal and Nick Roberson.

Girls team swimmers secured first-place finishes in six of their eight single-swimmer events, with seniors Gen Jordan and Leah Thirkill, junior Julia Estrada, and freshmen Beth Cashin and Sarah Miller coming in first in their events.

The teams will be back in action at the district championship meet, set for Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. at Manassas Park Community Center.
