F.C. Woman Wins Prize for Virginia Poets

Margaret Mackinnon of Falls Church is the winner of the 2011 Graybeal-Gowen Poetry Award, the Shenandoah literary magazine of Washington and Lee University announced this week.

For her winning entry, “Writing on the Window,” Mackinnon receives a $500 prize. The poem imagined the marriage between Sophia and Nathaniel Hawthorne.
The contest, open to poets born or living in Virgina, was judged by Poet Laureate of Virginia Kelly Cherry.
