Sen. Petersen Mulling Fairfax Water Bill

State Sen. Chap Petersen of Fairfax told the News-Press last weekend that he will await a hoped-for dialogue and resolution among the interested parties before introducing a bill in the state legislature to address Fairfax County’s action last month to disenfranchise adjacent Fairfax City, Town of Vienna and City of Falls Church water systems.

The legislative session began with the swearing in of the new legislators in Richmond Wednesday. Many state lawmakers will hold town halls around the state this weekend to both report to and take input from constituents.

In Falls Church, a town hall with new State Sen. Dick Saslaw and Del. Jim Scott will occur at 10 a.m. this Saturday in the Community Center, 223 N. Little Falls St. Falls Church School Board member Joan Wodiska told her board Tuesday that she will urge legislators to repeal the state’s “Labor Day Law” which mandates that public schools cannot open before Labor Day. She said she supports Gov. Bob McDonnell’s recommendation to leave decisions on school calendars to local jurisdictions.
