Fairfax County Board Approves Salary Hikes

Fairfax County Board Chair Sharon Bulova moved a measure this week to increase county employee salaries by two percent, the first for county employees since FY 2009.

The County Board in April set aside funds to increase employee compensation by 1.5 percent, but because of unexpected savings, Chairman Bulova reported she was able to increase that adjustment. “This increase is a well-deserved recognition of the hard work and sacrifices our County employees have endured and continue to endure as we recover from the Great Recession,” Bulova said.

The increase, effective Sept. 24, was approved as part of the budget process known as “carryover,” which deals with the balance of funds at the end of the fiscal year.
