Fairfax Police Investigate Crash Fatal to Falls Church Area Couple

Fairfax County Police are investigating a fatal crash that resulted in the deaths of a couple in their 80s on Sunday, September 4 around 3:45 p.m.

The crash occurred on Arlington Boulevard near the intersection of Patrick Henry Drive in the Falls Church area. Harry E. Emlet, Jr. 83, of the 3300 block of S. Jefferson Street was making a left turn on the green light onto a service road in front of the shopping center. His wife, Elinor K. Emlet, 85 was a passenger in their 1993 Nissan Sentra. Their vehicle failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by a pick-up truck traveling westbound on Arlington Boulevard. Both drivers and the passenger were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where the couple was pronounced dead.

The driver of the pick-up truck, a 41-year-old Rockville, Maryland man suffered non life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the crash and have not yet placed charges.

The Office of the Medical Examiner has determined that both died due to injuries sustained in the crash.
