Moran: Dem Budget Plan Protects Social Security, Medicare

As the final hours tick down before the U.S. goes into default on Aug. 2, Democratic Rep. Jim Moran, whose 8th District of Virginia includes the City of Falls Church, assured his constituents through a call from a spokesman to the News-Press yesterday that the Democratic proposal to cut $2.6 trillion from the federal budget does not involve any cuts or modifications to the current Social Security and Medicare programs.

He said it also does not involve any new taxes, and the cuts will be in “discretionary spending” programs only, including federal transportation, education and defense programs, among others.
