Last fall, more than 600 local volunteers gathered at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer to package 100,000 meals in a one-day effort to help eradicate hunger worldwide. The event, led by the Rotary Club of McLean, benefitted Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid to countries around the world. This year, McLean Rotarian and longtime McLean resident Bob Hahne, the event’s organizer, have decided to up the ante this June. The new goal: enlist more than 600 volunteers, package 150,000 meals and raise at least $37,500 to underwrite the costs of the meals. The McLean Rotary’s second Stop Hunger Now event is set for June 11 again at the Lutheran Church of Redeemer in McLean. The McLean Club – with the support of Rotary District 7610 Governor Ron Marion – will bring together local Rotary Clubs as well as many other community service organizations, businesses, religious congregations, schools and other community volunteers in support of the cause.
