City of Falls Church residents are being urged to contact the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) about whether or not the action was proper taken last fall by the F.C. City Council to move the date of local elections from November to May.
The DOJ is now amid an active review of the action, especially alerted because it had just last spring OKd the move by the F.C. in January 2010 to switch from May to November dates in order to capture higher overall over turnout levels. A new F.C. Council last fall voted to reverse that move. Citizens can weigh in with comments to Robert Berman, Deputy Chief, Voting Rights Section, Civil Rights Division, Room 7254 (NWB), Department of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20530.
