LIVE UPDATES: Mason Girls Crush Lancaster, 81-43

The George Mason High School girls basketball team opens up their run in the VHSL state tournament today at 11 a.m. The Lady Mustangs, who won both their district and regional titiles are looking for their third consecutive state championship. The two-time defending state champion George Mason High School Lady Mustangs from Falls Church face the Lancaster Devils from the Northern Neck District in the quarterfinals of the state tournament at Robinson High in Fairfax this morning. Tip off is at 11 a.m. The Mustangs are 17-5 on the season and the Devils are 9-11.

12:19 p.m. Final 81-43 Mason. Full story to follow

12:14 p.m.: Devils held scoreless first 5 minutes of 4th quarter. 78-37 Mason leads.

12:04 p.m.: 69-37, Mason up after 3 quarters. Stephanie Cheney blows up with 11 points in 3rd period, including two three-point plays and a three-pointer. Kane returns with 30 second left.

11:57 a.m.: 58-31 Mason at 3:21 in 3rd. Mason goes into full court press and gets 2 steals and lay up by Stephanie Cheney.

11:49 a.m.: Mustangs up 49-27 at 6:21in the third. Subs still in as Mason relinquishes 8 straight points to Devils

11:38 a.m.: 48-19, Mason leads Lancaster at the half. Mason scores only 2 points in final 3 minutes as third team off the bench hit with full court press by Devils. Mason led by 46-12 with 3 minutes to go on the strength of seven straight points by Stephanie Cheney and a 3-pointer by Lauren Kane. Devils led by Shamereh Kane with three 3-pointers and 11 points overall in the quarter.

11:23 a.m.: Mason leads 28-4 at the end of the first period. Scoring at a pace to hit 100 points, Mason hit nothing but lay ins off fast breaks and steals plus free throws. Nine points for Lauren Kane, Mason’s bench already cleared.

11:17 a.m.: Mason up 20-4 at 3:16 lst

11:13 am: 15-2 Mason at 4:46 lst

11:07 am: Steal and layup by Lauren Kane gets Mason off to 3-0 lead at 7:10, followed by 2 ft’s by Ashley Alexander, 5-0 Mason at 7:30 lst quarter. Over 100 Mason fans in stands.
