Chess Olympian Shares Moves With MEHMS Students

Former U.S. Women’s Olympic Chess Champion Ruth Haring, recently visited the Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School Chess Club recently to share her enthusiasm for the game and pass along a few moves.

Former U.S. Women’s Olympic Chess Champion Ruth Haring, recently visited the Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School Chess Club recently to share her enthusiasm for the game and pass along a few moves (checkmating with a king and a rook vs. just a king).

Haring, the sister-in-law of MEH ESOL specialist Gwen Villarreal, also donated several copies of “Chess Life for Kids,” a bi-monthly publication of the United States Chess Federation.
