Members of the Falls Church City Council, Planning Commission and School Board were hosted by Superintendent Dr. Lois Berlin on a school bus tour of the City’s four campuses – the Mt. Daniel Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Mary Ellen Henderson Middle and George Mason High School – last Friday morning. The tour arose out of discussions among Council and School Board members at the recent “retreat” to launch considerations for the next fiscal year budget. The tour was designed to bring the officials “up close and personal” with conditions in the schools, and all expressed how impressed they were with how well the teachers and staff have creatively dealt with the limitations in facilities they’ve faced. Mayor Nader Baroukh and Councilmembers Ira Kaylin and Johannah Barry were joined by the School Board’s Joan Wodiska, chair, and Patrick Riccards and Planning Commissioners John Lawrence, chair, and Rob Meeks.
