Despite holding back on an ad blitz and grand opening fanfare, the new BJ’s Wholesale Warehouse on Wilson Blvd. in Falls Church opened last weekend to big crowds, informed and waiting for the “soft opening” by reports in the News-Press. Falls Church Commissioner of the Revenue Tom Clinton reported that the store was mobbed on its first day last Saturday following the weekly Farmer’s Market with a strong contingent of City residents and also many from Arlington and Fairfax County. Some issues of “light and sound spillage” into nearby residential neighborhoods was reported by F.C. City Manager Wyatt Shields at the City Council meeting Monday night, but they’re in the process of being resolved, he said. Clinton said he was told by store management that while the footprint and layout of the store very closely follows that of the BJ’s in Fair Lakes, the new store is trying switching up some items, with more emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables, and less on clothing, for example.
