F.C. Cyclist & Pedestrian Awareness Week Starts

This Sunday, Sept. 12 marks the beginning of the 2nd Annual Bicyclist and Pedestrian Awareness Week throughout the state of Virginia. The F.C. Police Department is participating in the awareness week and officers will be patrolling in areas shared by bicyclists and pedestrians, F.C. Director of Communications Barbara Gordon said Tuesday.

Police Department is participating in the awareness week and officers will be patrolling in areas shared by bicyclists and pedestrians, F.C. Director of Communications Barbara Gordon said Tuesday.

Violators may be ticketed for failure to yield right-of-way for pedestrians, failure to obey stop signs and failure to obey crosswalk signals. At 11 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 11, police officers on bicycles will lead a “ride along” down the W&OD trail to highlight the importance of sharing the road and safety. The 2nd Annual Bicyclist and Pedestrian Awareness week continues through Sept. 18.
