F.C. City Schools’ Math Scores Improve

Test results released yesterday by the Falls Church City Public Schools pertaining to the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) measures for the 2009-2010 school year show that improvements were shown in Mathematics for the grades 4, 6 and 7, while in high school scores, the “end-of-course” SOL results “showed improved overall pass rates in Reading, Algebra 1, World History 1 and Biology,” according to a City Schools press release.

“There was improvement in 12 of the 22 indicators for grades 3-8…Most notably, this occurred in grades 6 and 4 in Mathematics, and generally across grade 6. Grade 8 in Science has shown improvement for three consecutive years.” The F.C. School Board will hold a work session next Tuesday, Aug. 31, to evaluate the results with members of the administration and school-based staff. Meanwhile, next Monday, the all-school Back to School assembly will be held at midday on the George Mason High School football field. Fall classes will commence after Labor Day on Sept. 7.
