F.C. Council Hears Plan to Acquire Land to Allow ‘Daylighting’ of Coe Branch

A plan recommended by Falls Church City Parks Director Howard Herman and Engineering Director William Hicks to acquire 2,900 square feet at the rear of 432 Sherrow Avenue in F.C. to add to the Hamlett/Rees Park for $43,500 was presented to the F.C. City Council in its work session tonight. The plan would permit the “daylighting” of a significant stretch of the Coe Branch of Tripps Run that is now diverted through underground pipes in the area. The effort at daylighting and maintenance of the new parcel would be funded out of a $324,000 federal grant. The property purchase agreement was signed by City Manager Wyatt Shields on June 30 but awaits final OK from the City Council.
