Mason Boys Soccer Crushes Nelson Co., Takes Regional Title

The George Mason High School boys soccer team ran all over Nelson County Friday, shutting out the Governors 9-0, to take the Virginia Region B crown.

Nick Smirniotopoulos had a monster, seven-point game for the Mustangs, scoring four times and adding three assists. Also scoring for Mason were Andrew Arias, two goals and an assist, Alex Casteuble, one goal and an assist, Harris Schaffer, one goal, and Erik Carlson with a goal. Dane Warner and Eion Oosterbaan each had one assist for the ‘Stangs.

Tyler Back (1 save) and Sebastian Umerez (2 saves) combined on the shutout for the 2010 Region B champs.

Mason will host Nandua on Tuesday June 8, in a state quaterfinal matchup. Nandua, the Region A runner up, fell to Northampton, 3-0, Friday night.
