McLean Softball Crushes South Lakes, 19-2

The McLean High School varsity girls softball team traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C. over their Spring Break last week.

They went 4-1 with the following scores: Wash Jesuit (Ohio), lost 3-1; Berea (S.C.), won 9-5; Franklin High (Penn.), won 10-1; West Jessamine (Kent.), won 8-4; and Dunkirk (N.Y.), won 11-2.

The Lady Highlanders played their first home game of the season Tuesday against South Lakes High, winning 19-2, in five innings.

McLean’s junior pitcher, Jamie Bell, went four innings with eight strikeouts.

Bell was two for three at the plate with two runs.

Freshman pitcher Lauren Hahne pitched the last inning striking out the first three batters to end the game.

Strong batters for the Lady Highlanders were sophomore left fielder Allison Willhelm, who went three for four with a home run and three runs. Senior center fielder Lauren Sutherland went two for four with two triples and one run. Senior shortstop Lauren McColgan went two for four with one run. Senior Carolyn Gilbertson-(designated hitter) went two for two, with two runs, and Freshman catcher Maddie Moore was two for three with one run.

Mclean had 16 hits in all, and South Lakes had two.

Mclean has played three district games so far this season, and has scored 50 runs, while only allowing three runs against them. The team currently stands at 9-1, with one tie against South Lakes in a pre-season scrimmage.

The Lady Highlanders face a tough game this Friday, April 9, at home against Madison.
