F.C.’s Ben Lasso Finishes Strong Golf Season, Takes Honors at Invitational

Falls Church resident Ben Lasso maintained a strong performance during the Fall semester golf season on the Queens University of Charlotte Golf Team.

On Sept. 15, Lasso finished in sixth place among a pool of 63 golfers in the Morehead State University Invitational in Pineville, Ky. after shooting 68, 73 and 73 for a total of two under par. Queens placed third of the 10 teams competing.

The following week, Lasso tied for fifth among 83 competitors in the Clayton State University Invitational at Hampton, Ga. Queens finished seventh of the 16 teams competing.

The tournament was cut short by one round because of heavy rain and flooding.

Lasso’s first round 71 was followed by a four under 68 as he led the Queens team. His strong play garnered Lasso an award for “All Tournament Championship” honors.

Many of the teams in the Morehead State University and Clayton State University tourneys were NCAA Division II schools that were nationally ranked in the top 20. As a result of Queen’s performance against those schools, Queens was subsequently ranked by Golfstat as 10th in the nation among Division II schools.

Lasso closed out the season with a 12th place finish at the Queens University Invitational on October 11 – 13 at the TPC Sawgrass Resort in Ponte Verde, Fla. Queens finished eighth of the 17 teams competing.

During the tournament, Lasso kept his first round one under 71. He struggled, however, on the second day, ending the round with a score of 74.

Lasso’s average score for the Fall season was 71.14 that earned him a national ranking of 65 by Golfstat among all NCAA and NAIA Division schools.

The second half of the golf team’s year starts in February 2010.
