F.C. Swim League Season Roundup

In their last meet of the lengthy summer swim season, the members of Lee Graham, High Point and Poplar Heights went out on a high note, aptly representing the Falls Church area in the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL)  Individual All-Star meet at Broyhill Crest Pool last Saturday. The meet brought together the top swimmers from each division across the region.

Lee Graham’s Logan Coulson Moore rang in two third-place swims in the 50-meter freestyle and the 50-meter backstroke in the 13-14 age group. Miller Surette and Michael Southern, each swimming in the 11-12 age group, placed second in the 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter individual medley, respectively. Southern also went on to finish sixth in the 50-meter butterfly while Surette placed seventh in the 100-meter IM.

Lucas Cherry placed fourth in the 13-14 50-meter backstroke, just under a second behind the leader. His sister, Maddie Cherry, placed fourth in the 50-meter backstroke and eighth in the 50-meter freestyle.

Natalie Leake rounded out Lee Graham’s top-10 finishers, placing third in the 50-meter breaststroke and ninth in the 50-meter freestyle for 15-18 swimmers.

The dive members of Lee Graham also posted a strong showing on Saturday at Dunn Loring. Elena Bavolack took second in the junior girls, just over three points behind Truro’s Callan Monette. Margaret Lister finished 11th in the freshman girls division, Danny Metzmaier placed 14th in the freshman boys and Tucker Smith placed 12th in the junior boys.

Ben Southern (15th in 50m fly), Billy Kilgallin (13th in 100m IM), Freddy Crawford (11th in 50m free and 15th in 100m IM), Elena Summers (15th in 50m back and 16th in 50m breast) and Christie DeFlumeri (18th in 100m IM) rounded out the All-Star participants for Lee Graham.

For High Point, eight-and-under swimmer Lachlan Flatin lead the way, scoring a pair of top-five finishes, finishing fourth in the 25-meter freestyle, just .47 seconds away from the winner. Flatin later placed second in the 25-meter breaststroke, .08 seconds back.

Hunter Perrot came in third in the 15-18 50-meter freestyle, while eight-and-under participant Sigrid Edson placed fifth in the 25-meter breaststroke. Benjamin Sharrer (11th in 25-meter freestyle) and Kelley Frank (13th in 50-meter butterfly) also scored top finishes for High Point.

Beth Cashin, swimming in the 11-12 age group, was the top finisher for the Poplar Heights Crush, placing second in the 50-meter backstroke. Ian Thompson (eight-and-under), who placed 15th in the 25-meter breaststroke, Alexandra Yensen (15-18), who finished 16th in the 50-meter backstroke, and Grace Grossman (17th in the eight-and-under 25-meter backstroke) rounded out the Crush’s swimmers at Broyhill Crest.
