Morning, Afternoon Sessions Continue at MPA

Morning session summer camps continue at McLean Project for the Arts (1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean). On week three, July 6 – 10, “Tell Us a Story” will encourage campers aged 6 – 11 to gain a new appreciation for how stories are told, providing a variety of materials and techniques to create art that tells a narrative. Morning sessions take place Monday – Friday from 9:30 a.m. – noon.

Three members of Boy Scout Troop 681 in Falls Church received their Eagle Scout awards at a Court of Honor last Friday, June 26 at the Scout House on Spring Street. Seen here (left to right) are Neal Cobert, Tim Hilliard and Daniel Bower. The sashes indicate all three were members of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s camping and service society, with Bower as the troop’s only “Vigil Honor” member, the highest level. All three recently graduated from high school. Cobert will attend Edinboro University in Pennsylvania; Hilliard will be a cadet at Virginia Tech; and Bower will go to St. Michael’s College in Vermont. (Photo: R. Lobb)

Additionally, afternoon sessions for children aged 8 – 11 continue from July 6 – 10 as well, Monday – Friday from 1 – 3:30 p.m. In “Photo Collage,” rising third through sixth graders will supply their own digital or disposable camera to take photographs of nature, architecture, art and people. They will use photographic prints, ink, pastels, paint, an assortment of papers and other collage materials to create mixed-media collage paintings and pastel drawings. Basic principles of color, design, texture and composition will be emphasized.

Campers are reminded that they should bring a snack and a painting smock, or an old oversized shirt. Parents and siblings are invited to an art show to be held during the last 20 minutes of class each Friday. Tuition is $150 per week, $135 for McLean district residents.
