McLean Softball Ups Win Tally, Challenges Marshall Tonight

The McLean High School varsity softball team surged ahead with two victories against South Lakes last week, raising their tally to 14 wins and only three losses so far this season.

The Monday and Tuesday night wins over South Lakes – 15-4 and 18-3 – came on the heels of last Friday’s close 4-3 victory over Thomas Jefferson.

On Monday night, junior centerfielder Lauren Sutherland made two hits, scoring twice for the Highlanders. Fellow junior Megan Sullivan came alive, going three for five with a sacrifice fly to get an RBI.

Tuesday night’s game saw more high energy from the Lady Highlanders, with junior shortstop Lauren McColgan going three for five with two doubles, four stolen bases and three RBIs. Junior Carolyn Gilbertson went two for three with two RBIs.

McLean has improved its district record to 10-1, and are currently ranked first in the Liberty District. In second place is rival Madison, which was previously undefeated until the Highlanders’ victory on April 22.

Next, the girls face the George C. Marshall Statesmen in an away game at 6:30 p.m. today, May 1.
