CHARLIE BROTMAN, co-founder of the Falls Church-based Brotman, Winter, Fried marketing and events management group, was caught by surprise at the Fitzgerald Tennis Center Tuesday night during the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. Escorted to the court by Miss Universe (behind him), he watched as a cloak fell from the press box, revealing it has been named the “Charlie Brotman Press Box” in his honor. Brotman, who was also a public announcer for the original Washington Senators, has been announcing at the annual tennis tournament since 1969. His legendary trademark is his respectful, “Thank you,” that concludes his announcements. He used it in gratitude for Tuesday’s honor, and the crowd of thousands responded by imitating it back to him. Brotman, who is 80 and bounced around the court in glee, told the News-Press that the secret to his perpetual youth is, “Loving the work that I do.” (News-Press photo)
