Representatives from Creative Memories, Life Times, Longaberger, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Silpada Jewelry, Tastefully Simple and Tupperware are hosting a Holiday Open House at Lee Oaks Condo Clubhouse from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 1.  Clay Café Studios and the Greater Falls Church Chamber of Commerce are co-hosting the 7th Annual Family FUNdraiser for the Falls Church Emergency Homeless Shelter on Tuesday, December 4. Attendees will have the opportunity to paint an ornament, plate, bowl or mug from a select group. Refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. John Bowen of Bookkeeping and Money Management in Falls Church was re-elected to serve a second on-year term as president of the American Association of Daily Money Managers. Bowen served as president in 2007 and will continue his service through 2008. The association, which held its election at its November 10 Annual Meeting in San Antonio, is dedicated to addressing the public need for daily money management services (such as personal bookkeeping, budgeting and bill-paying services) delivered in a professional and ethical manner. The association provides information and education to members and potential clients about practical, technical and ethical issues relating to daily money management services. The Greater Falls Church Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors elected its 2008 Officers and five new Directors at its November 13 meeting. Elected were the following officers: Gary LaPorta from Miniatures from the Attic as Chair and head of the Legislative Committee, Ralph Perrino from Northern Virginia Tutoring Service as Chair-Elect and head of the Membership Committee, Cindy Elkin of Diener & Associates, CPAs as Treasurer, Michael Ankuma of Edward Jones Investments as Secretary, and as Vice Chairs, Bob Young of The Young Group overseeing fund development, and Nick Benton of the Falls Church News-Press overseeing programs. Additionally, the following individuals were approved unanimously to serve 3-year terms starting in 2008: Karen Akers, VA Tech/UVA Northern Virginia Center; Chris Bergin, Tax Analysts; Paul Cannon, Falls Church Foot & Ankle Center; Mati Makagon, Janmedia Interactive; and Adam Schulman, Atlantic Realty Companies. Gary LaPorta was also re-elected to serve another term and Helene Safford will continue to serve in an ex-officio capacity as the organization’s Past-Chair. LaPorta will have the opportunity to appoint up to 5 additional directors to serve 1-year terms.

Falls Church-based TinselVision, a premium online video-on-demand (VoD) channel and entertainment brand serving South Asian entertainment fans outside the Indian subcontinent announced a major digital content distribution deal with Shemaroo Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. Mumbai-based Shemaroo is a leader in Indian entertainment, producing and distributing more than 1,000 premium movies to audiences throughout the world across multiple platforms. TinselVision’s non–exclusive license enables it to distribute, via its online service, about 100 premium Shemaroo movies including recent releases such as the award winning “Manorama Six Feet Under”. The deal with Shemaroo Entertainment marks the fourth major content alliance TinselVision has announced among India’s leading networks and producers, following its tie-ups with Zee Entertainment Enterprises’ Zee TV and News Corp’s STAR India. Meridian Property Inc. purchased the office building at 2924 Telestar Court in Falls Church, from a private investor for $2.57 million, or about $256 per square foot. The single-story, 10,044-square-foot facility was built in 1971 as an industrial property, but has been used as office space for the past 30 years. It sits on a half-acre in the Yorktown R&D Park and has been vacant for about one year. Immediately following its purchase, Meridian began renovating the property to complete the conversion from industrial to office. Delivery is scheduled for January. The IRS has started a new service, e-News for Small Business. Distributed every Wednesday, e-News, provides timely small business tax information including upcoming tax dates, new items on the IRS Web site, reminders and tips to assist businesses with tax compliance, IRS news releases and special IRS announcements.
