The Falls Church News-Press is hosting the Greater Falls Church Chamber of Commerce’s July Networking Mixer on Thursday, July 26 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. The 17th annual Summer Social will take place in the News-Press offices located at 450 W. Natalia's Elegant Creations Pastry Shop and Cafe will open its doors on Tuesday, July 31 at 230 W. Broad Street in Falls Church. The new European style pastry shop will offer a large variety of European style cakes, pastries, cookies, and cupcakes. Freshly baked bagels, croissants and muffins, as well as a limited sandwich menu will also be offered. Coffees, teas, espressos, lattes and other beverages can be ordered for either sit down or take out. Gluten-free desserts are available daily. Vantage Fitness will open its new facility in the Read Building located at 402 W. Broad Street in Falls Church at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31. To facilitate the move, the current location at 442 S. The Virginia Downtown Development Association is hosting a luncheon entitled “Downtown Development is Mixed Use Development” on August 16 from noon – 2 p.m. in Richmond. Speakers include Chris Earley of Greening Urban, LLC and Jeannie Welliver from the Richmond Department of Economic Development. Falls Church-based DynCorp International has named Gen. Anthony C. Zinni (USMC-Ret.) to the position of executive vice president. Gen. Zinni will direct business development, business strategy, communications, and product branding. Gen. Zinni retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 39 years of service, during which he served as the Commanding General of the First Marine Expeditionary Force, Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Central Command, and as senior adviser and U.S. envoy to the Middle East. Gen. Zinni resigned from DynCorp International's board of directors to assume the position. DynCorp is a provider of specialized mission-critical technical services to government agencies worldwide, and operates major programs in law enforcement training and support, security services, base operations, aviation services, contingency operations, and logistics support. Redfin Corp., an online real estate broker based in Seattle, WA, has opened its East Coast headquarters in Falls Church and launched its e-commerce service for the DC and Baltimore areas, adding 50,000 property listings locally. Redfin’s service will now be available in the District of Columbia; Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George's counties in Maryland; and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Manassas, Prince William and Stafford counties as well as the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church in Virginia.
