Jody’s Jam of the Week

Safeway’s 15th Annual National Barbecue Battle, Saturday, June 23 Pennsylvania Ave., between 9th and 14th

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve recommended something for your belly, but, have no fear sustenance savorers, it’s Eatin’ Time again. This Saturday and Sunday pull out your bibs and wet naps because the 15th Annual National Barbecue Battle is rolling into town. The premiere barbecue event in the world will pit teams from all over the country in a battle to see who can produce the best eats. On Saturday, teams will compete in the D.C. Lottery’s Barbecue Challenge, cooking up pork, beef and chicken. Then on Sunday, The National Pork BBQ Championship challenges teams to produce the best whole hog, pork shoulder and pork rib. In addition to the meat, special awards and prizes will be given for best BBQ sauce. Since you’ll be consuming a good portion of grub, loose fitting attire is recommended, and, to prevent the uncomfortable post-gorge squeeze behind the steering wheel, the Metro, and their roomy seats, should be your transportation of choice.
