Boys of Summer Wind Down with End of Little League Season

The regular season Single A champion Red Wings completed a perfect 15-0 season on June 17, defeating the Rattlers by a score of 11-9 and winning the Single A tournament championship. Third baseman Harrison Nixon’s unassisted out helped prevent the Rattlers from scoring in the first inning. After the Red Wings jumped to a 4-0 lead, the Rattlers roared back in the second with four runs of their own to tie the score. Nick Haddock’s two-RBI double in the third gave the Red Wings a one-run lead. Despite a very strong offensive showing by the Rattlers, the Red Wings were able to hang on to the lead for the remainder of the game.

In playoff action on Monday, June 11, before a lively crowd at Jefferson Village, the Sidewinders defeated the powerful Lugnuts, 6-1. Defensively, the Sidewinders were led by strong pitching from Andrew Connelly, George Castillo and Casey Lauer who held the dangerous Lugnuts lineup to a single run. Jack Rasmussen had an excellent game at shortstop and at the plate. The Sidewinders were led by the strong hitting of Megan Butler, Alexa Tracy and Chappy Asel.
On Thursday, June 14, the underdog Sidewinders overcame a strong Scrappers team to win the AA Championship 14-7 before a capacity crowd at Westgate 2. The Sidewinders were powered by excellent hitting from Peter Byman, Tyler Taylor, Teddy Bagapor, Pat Lethbridge and Wesley Quill. Defensively, Anna Connole had two strong plays in the field. For the Scrappers, Billy Smith hit a triple, Jacob Walters smacked a double, with Zach Lang and Jack Gieseler also providing hits.
