The Last Waltz Ensemble, State Theatre, 220 N. Washington St., Falls Church, Sunday, June 10, Doors open at 7.
One of the greatest seminal influences in rock was The Band, led by Robbie Robertson, which was commemorated in the Martin Scorcese film, The Last Waltz, in 1976. Last year, the 30th anniversary of that film, itself now legendary, the Last Waltz Ensemble of Atlanta came together for a highly-successful “cover band” tour. Now they’re back to give us another shot at recalling the great music of that era and that band. “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” remains one of my all-time favorites, even if a version of it sung by Jerry Garcia is my favorite rendering. The Machine, the great Pink Floyd cover band, was at the State last weekend, now we get The Band.
