The Falls Church City Council has proclaimed April 9 – 14, 2007 as Architecture Week. Arlington County, Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax have passed similar proclamations. The proclamation and events planned during the week commemorate the American Institute of Architecture’s 150th Anniversary. Events include a Glenn Brown Exhibit through April and a lecture on April 12 at the Lyceum, an Architecture in the Schools Exhibit April 13 – 15 at the Athenaeum, and AIA Family Day at the AIA National Headquarters. Falls Church Cabinetry is in the process of remodeling the former carpet store at the corner of W. Broad and S. West Street. Plans are to open the new showroom and custom cabinet store in May.

Virginia Senator Mary Margaret Whipple, Delegate Bob Hull, and Delegate Jim Scott will be the featured speakers at the Greater Falls Church Chamber of Commerce’s Networking Luncheon scheduled for 11:30 am – 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2007. “The Richmond Report” will take place at the Italian Café located at 7161 Lee Highway. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers with reserved seats. An additional $5 will be added to attendees who have not reserved their seat. Two Falls Church-based businesses have paired up for a “Doggie Photo Contest”. Tomoko Kawasumi of the Organic Doggie Kitchen is organizing the event and donating the prize of a gift basket filled with wholesome gourmet dog treats. Dr. Michelle Kelly from Falls Church Animal Hospital will judge the entries. The winner will be announced during Doggy Happy Hour being hosted by the Organic Doggy Kitchen which will take place during May’s FIRSTfriday in the parking lot of Art and Frame of Falls Church (111 Park Avenue in Falls Church).
