Mason Boys Lax Takes 2 Wins

The George Mason High School boys varsity lacrosse team claimed two more victories last week, defeating Washington-Lee, 7-2, on Wednesday and topping Park View, 9-3, a day later.

Will Stewart led the Mustangs with a hat trick against Park View, with the team’s extra man offense tallying four goals on the day. Conversely, the Mason penalty kill allowed just one goal while shorthanded.

“It was an extremely physical game with a lot of penalties,” Mason Head Coach Rich Costello said. “We managed to keep our composure and stick to the game plan.”

Costello lauded the play of his defense, led by Sean Mondragon, for limiting Park View to low percentage, outside shots. Tim Koning continued to mind the nets for the Mustangs, who are still without the injured Ewan Oglethorpe.

Mason returns to action after spring break with a home game April 12 against Potomac Falls. The game is slated to start at 6 p.m.
